The Gig

Urban List is on the hunt for a Head of Local Content to lead the charge on all things local. You’ll be the driving force behind the stories we tell in every city we call home — from where to eat, drink and play, to the people and moments shaping culture right now.

This role is all about connection — building communities, growing loyal audiences, and making sure Urban List continues to show up in a meaningful way, city by city. You’ll work shoulder-to-shoulder with our Head of Lifestyle to deliver content that cuts through, celebrates what’s great, and supports our partners with purpose-led storytelling.

What You’ll Do

Local Content Strategy
Set and steer the editorial strategy across our city teams — making sure everything we publish is hyper-relevant, hyper-local, and high impact. You’ll ensure our content shows up meaningfully in every city, every day — spotlighting the best of what’s now and what’s next.

Team Leadership & Development
Lead, support and grow a crew of talented editors, writers and creatives. You’ll be their go-to, helping them thrive, build their skills, and keep the good vibes (and great content) flowing.

Cultural Relevance & Audience Growth
Create and commission stories that spark curiosity, reflect local culture, and build real community. You’ll know what makes each city tick — and help Urban List stay on the pulse and ahead of the curve.

Commercial Collaboration & Revenue Growth
Partner with our commercial crew to dream up content that not only delivers for our readers but brings serious value to our brand partners. You’ll know how to balance creativity with commercial thinking — and spot opportunities that benefit both.

Operational Excellence & Content Performance
Drive smart, streamlined content operations — from planning cycles to approvals — ensuring quality and consistency across every city. Use data to guide decisions, optimise team resourcing, and fuel continuous improvement. You’ll also champion innovation, experimenting with new formats, platforms, and AI-enhanced tools.

Industry & Stakeholder Engagement
Build strong relationships with cultural leaders, creators, and partners to expand our network and amplify our brand. Represent Urban List at pitches, panels, and industry events, and work closely with exec leadership to align content strategy with business goals.

What You Bring
  • Serious editorial chops and a sharp eye for content that connects
  • Proven experience leading creative or content teams — bonus points for multi-city or multi-market experience

  • A deep love for local culture and a sixth sense for what’s trending

  • Strategic thinking with a side of data-savvy — you know how to grow an audience and keep them coming back

  • A collaborative style, with great energy and an even better sense of humour

  • A passion for storytelling, people, and purpose-led work
